Executive Functioning Coaching

I connect with students to find systems and processes that work for them in particular: anything but a one-size-fits-all approach. For an interesting discussion of executive functioning coaching, check out my interview on the podcast Parenting ADHD & Autism (the podcast has over 3 million downloads!)

Organized Backpack

Not just organization skills

Many people think executive functioning coaching is about organizing backpacks and binders. It's so much more than that! Among other things, executive functioning coaching can help with:

  • Figuring out how to work through long-term assignments, set and measure mini-goals, and avoid procrastination

  • Making a system for your work: how do you figure out what assignments have to be done and track their status towards completion?

  • Metacognitive and content needs: Executive functioning challenges often show up in the writing process (e.g., coming up with ideas and working through the whole process) and in math word problems and calculations (e.g., making "silly" mistakes or organizing work).

Work smarter

Executive functioning coaching is different than tutoring. It teaches your child to work smarter and to get more work done in the time spent! If your child is resistant, it can sometimes helps to realize that many top level performers (athletes and executives) hire coaches. We can all benefit from a little outside perspective and support sometimes!
